10.08.2025. A dark month for Kenya as over 50 die in accidents within 10 days of the new month

Within the first few days of August, we’ve lost over 50 Kenyans in separate road and air accidents. Of the number, 8 died when an aircraft owned by AMREF flying doctors descended and crashed in a residential estate near Nairobi shortly after taking off. Two captains and four medical personnel on board perished and very little of their remains could be collected in a few polyethene bags. Two occupants of the apartment upon which the aircraft crashed also perished, bringing the total of those who died in the accident to eight. On 8th August evening, a bus lost control and overturned at a roundabout near Kisumu, one of Kenya’s major cities, leading to 26 deaths. Three other accidents have been reported within the past seven days, one leading to 12 deaths, another 3 death and another 2. It is agony since this is the month when Al Qaeda attacked our city and over 250 lives were lost in 1998. We hope the trend ends and it is our prayer that the bereft find solace.
