Simple Get Together

Spent part of my weekend in the most productive way possible—eating. We had a family lunch buffet, and my son’s girlfriend joined us, which made it feel like an extra-special celebration. Oh, and it just happened to be my birthday too—so yes, I gave myself full permission to sample every dessert on the table. Between the endless plates of food and the non-stop exchange of stories, I’m not sure which we had more of—calories or laughs. Either way, my stomach and my heart went home equally full. So tell me—on your birthday, are you the type who goes all-out… or keeps it low-key?

That sounds so cool! My birthdays are really low key. Although, for my 45th next year, I plan on inviting several people to a nice dinner and celebrating. Happy birthday!

That sounds like a great plan! Since the pandemic began, my Birthday celebrations have pretty much followed this script—simple yet heartfelt. I've grown accustomed to enjoying a nice lunch or dinner with the VIPs of my life: my wonderful wife, my son, and soon enough, my future daughter-in-law (yes, it's official—lol).

Low-key, and belated happy birthday. You had fun and laughter, and that's what counts most.

It was such a blast doing something out of the ordinary! While my enthusiasm for buffets has dwindled with age (seriously, who needs that many choices?), spending time with my son and his girlfriend was a delightful change of pace. The cherry on top? Heading home for the most glorious afternoon nap, waking up feeling like a brand-new person, and basking in the remainder of a wonderfully relaxing weekend.

That's a lovely expression - that your stomach and heart were both full.

As an introvert, I think I would prefer to keep it as private as possible. However, if you're the kind of person who enjoys a grand celebration, I completely understand that too.
