Yesterday morning we took a nice walk along Lake Huron.
We walked out as far as we could on the cement walkway on the water beside the shipping canal.
There were some ships that we enjoyed seeing. One had alot of activity in and around it, they were preparing to receive a load of grain.
There is a salt mine across the channel that we could see. We saw them loading train cars with salt. They process the salt into a variety of grades of salt there.
A crowd grew as this ship was loaded. It was quite interesting.

My dad worked for a time on those ore boats that sailed the Great Lakes. I would like to see one being loaded too.

Yes it is hard to believe.
The old ship in the top photo is mostly out of the water.
We noticed some marks on the side of the ship where it must have hit an iceberg or something big.
I would have enjoyed touring that one, but they didn't offer tours.
One day I would like to visit a harbour when the tall ships come in as they usually offer tours on those.

One of my sister-in-laws built a new cottage on the St. Clair River, which is beautiful and very deep.
You can sit and watch these huge lake freighters quietly pass by all of the time, it is relaxing to see them passing, unless 2 are meeting and you swear that they will collide, but never do.
