I was just thinking today, am I now or will I be living the American dream? Is there still an American dream left? The words in the song about having no money but being able to go out if both of them pay is I guess the way things are in reality. I have to think about budgeting every day and I try to do what i can to join all kinds of programs on sites I write for that offer me some kind of income.
So this song "American Dream" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band came to my mind as I sit here watching the palm trees outside my door waving in the tropical breeze. The song was written by Rodney Crowell, who recorded it as "Viola, An American Dream" in 1978. It was then picked up and recorded as "American Dream" by country-rock music band Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, who also go by the name The Dirt Band.
Their version was released in 1979 and charted on both Billboard Hot Country Singles and on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. The song features a backing vocal from Linda Ronstadt. What is interesting is that later this song was actually adapted into Norwegian, titled "Ein Nordmann Sin Draum" by Olav Stedje.
