Is The Death Penalty Racist?

Good grief, if you ask the "Squad" everything is racist. Ayanna Presley, the's the bald woman on the "Squad" (American Congresswoman) says the death penalty is racist and should be abolished. Their argument is that Black and Hispanic people represent 31% of the U.S. population, but 53% of death row inmates—41.9% and 11.3% respectively (American Progress, 2019). But did they calculate what percent of U.S. criminals are Black or Hispanic? Wouldn't it make sense that if minorities made up more of the inmates that they would naturally make up more of the death row? How can the death penalty be racist? It's used based on very specific criteria based on the severity of the crimes and criminal history of the person being charged. That's objective, not subjective. I personally think, and I know my opinion is going to be highly unpopular here, that they should apply the death penalty more often both as a deterrent to recidivism as well as a cost-savings for housing prisoners for life.

Of course it's not racist, and why on Earth would the left use actual statistics to understand why something is the way it is? Because it would make sense, and making sense destroys their preferred illusions.
