Much to my surprise, when I checked the status of the Powerball drawing last night, no one won and now the jackpot has advanced to $1.1 billion. I was sure last night would be the night.
Of the tickets I bought online, I had no winners of any kind. Not even the smallest prize. I haven't checked the paper tickets I have yet, but there was at least one $1 million winner in Illinois, so maybe there's a chance?
Incidentally, we took a little ride to Perryville, MO yesterday, which is about an hour and a half away, and the route we take runs us right through Red Bud, Illinois, home of the 2012 MegaMillions winning couple, Merle and Patricia Butler who won the $656 million jackpot after buying a ticket at the MotoMart across the street from their house.
Even though the chances of that store hitting it big twice are slim to none, we bought a ticket there anyway.
But driving through town we noticed the Butler's were in town. They no longer live in the house, but they did keep it and have a large yard that they turned into sort of a classic car display. One day I will have to take a picture of it.
My wife and I joked that of course they were in town. They'd come around to try to win the lottery again.
Obviously, I will buy a few more tickets despite the terrible odds. At the end of the day, it's fun to dream a little bit, and that's entertainment well worth the measly $2 output that could potentially turn into such a massive windfall.

Oh darn, I hadn't heard the news or checked my tickets (I bought 3) yet. I was also certain last night would be MY night.
