First day of School Sept 1st

Israel

My day as a teacher in Israel on the first day of School was both good and bad. It started out ok, I drove to work with the right hand mirror all messed up. I tried to clean it, but it just made mud, as I didn't have a tissue to clean it, Don't use your fingers, it doesn't work. . . So when I got to school, they have a very cute ceremony as the new First Graders are coming in. The 6th graders line up on two sides of a red carpet and the first graders and their parents come down the middle. It was very cute and moving. All the teachers and the 6th graders were wearing white shirts, so it was very " Festive". Then as the Saxophone teacher at the school, I took the computer room, as it is the most sound proof, and set up there. I have a locked closet, and everything that I put there from last year was still there and in order, so I didn't have anything to do. As I also play the flute, I had both the flute and saxophone with me, I practised on the saxophone, that I play quite well, but the flute playing was patchy. The music teachers need to give a performance to show the kids the instruments, and then the students will choose which they want to play for the year. Me and another teacher chose the song, and I can play it on the Saxophone. The flute part , well, I didn't do well. I tried, but since the Flute teacher broke his leg, and can't climb up and down the many steps in our school, I thought that I could do it , but I can't. . . I suggested to the coordinator of Music in the school, that the real flute teacher make a video to show to the kids. . . I hope that happens, because I don't want to be the cause of him not having any students this year. So my take away is that I need to keep in practise of all my instruments. Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute and Guitar. .

If you still have your flute, you can pick it up again. It is like riding a horse, you might need some lessons, but you will remember what you learned before.

@lifecoachjerusalem I sold the flute years ago. I knew I wasn’t going to play it much.

I’m glad to hear the rest went well. I love the flute, but the saxophone is my favorite.

The saxophone is easier to play tham the flute. I didn't practise the flute all summer and had kept up with the saxohone. I thought I could get away with just my natural talent. but needs suppllmented with more than an hour of practise.

My niece is a whiz on the flute. She also plays saxophone and several brass instruments. If push comes to shove, can you play an easier flute piece? The kids won't know the difference and it might be better than playing something badly.
