I heard the negative reactions to this movie, but I still had to check it out just to see for myself. I seen the 1953 film many years ago and to be honest I am not sure I remember that much about it. I seen the one 2005 version with Tom Cruise back in the day and enjoyed it. So I went into this movie with those in mind and tried to open minded about this one. Ice Cube, Eva Longoria, Clark Gregg, and Iman Benson star in this film. Gregg and Benson, I had never heard of before and Longoria, I know of but honestly can’t say I know what she has been in before. Cube, I know and seen him in a few things, and I would say he’s a average actor at best so it doesn’t sound like that would be a good start to the movie already. The government surveillance made me more scared than the aliens. The visuals in the movie are good, but I think the good in the movie stops there everything else was alright at best. The acting was not great in my opinion, and most of it being seen through surveillance cameras was annoying to me. The little twist in the movie which I won’t give away, I seen coming a mile away. All I could think about through the movie was, does our government have the ability to spy on us like that? Even though I tried to have an open mind about this movie I found myself disappointed in it. I would give it maybe 2 stars out of 5 because it did stick to the overall story of aliens attacking and the visuals were good but beyond that it was not that good. If you like the original 1898 novel maybe see this just to see where they took the story.
