Dollar Hunt

I’ll be traveling with my mom soon, but I’m a little worried since I don’t have much USD on hand. I tried going to the bank to buy some, but they told me they don’t sell dollars if you don’t have an account with them. I also asked around in the malls, but it turns out they only buy dollars, not sell them. Luckily, when I mentioned it to my colleagues, one of them said her brother has a dollar account, and she offered to help me exchange money through him.

I could be wrong, but here in the U.S., so long as you have a debit card (I am not sure a credit card would work), you should be able to go to any ATM in the U.S. and withdraw money in U.S. dollars. Granted, you may pay a hefty fee for it. Either way, I hope you get it figured out.

@annierose I am pretty sure you can do it. You will have to update us when you get here. Have you ever been to the U.S. before?

A bank can give you travellers cheques which can be converted to any currency when you reach a country

Oh, that’s good to know! I’ve heard of traveler’s cheques before but never really tried using them. Sounds like a safe option when going abroad.

I’m glad that turned out well. It sounds frustrating.

Yes, and we still have enough time to prepare before our flight.

Good that your colleague's brother can help. I think that with your debit card, you should be able to withdraw it once you reach the US. Check with your bank and see if you can use them on international travels.

Thanks, that’s really helpful advice! I’ll check with my bank to make sure my card can be used internationally. It’s good to know I’ll have that option once I get to the US.

@arunima25 That makes a lot of sense. agree, carrying less cash definitely feels safer and more convenient. I’ll keep that in mind and make sure to rely more on my card for those expenses too.

@annierose Yes, it is better, convenient and safer than traveling with too much cash. It works for us when we travel to any country. We don't carry much cash. We have one credit card for our international travel. We pay resturant, hotel and other shopping bills using that
