Golf Carts Take to the Streets

I've noticed an increasing number of "souped up" golf carts riding along the shore towns where I live. It seems these carts are not just for golf courses or adult communities in Florida like "The Villages" anymore. If you live in a suburban town, you might have noticed them too. Golf carts are becoming street legal in one community after another as families ditch their minivans and SUVs when they want to run a quick errand or joy ride around town. It does seem like a lot of fun doesn't it. Yet, it's not all fun and games for some residents. As with the increase of E-Bikes (which is becoming a constant presence in my state) this boom has come with complaints. Some residents of cart-friendly towns say slow drivers are clogging the streets and reckless ones are making them unsafe. These carts do have safety features like seat belts, headlights, and turn signals, but only top out at speeds of 25 MPH. I've noticed young teens and even a couple of "pre-teens" riding E-Bikes around my neighborhood treating the road like a private speedway. Seems to me like some rules and regulations should be enforced regarding these golf carts and E-Bikes. Question: Are golf carts and E-Bikes in your community? Would you be in favor of street legal GOLF CARTS in your town? What rules/laws should be enforced if any for using them? Some Source Info- The Wall Street Journal Photo- You Tube

Yes , you name it, if it moves, its here in the streets. Nothing is enforced much at all. People complain, and there seems to be no regulation. Lots of hit and runs in these instances too.

It is really becoming a big problem OT. I think an age limit should be required to ride an E-Bike or golf cart.

I've never seen a golf cart or E-Bike here. I would just worry about an accident with a golf cart. There's no real protection.

Yes, good point Linda. I think these things are dangerous, they’re around cars much bigger than they are, and when they’re operated by children with no adult supervision, it’s just an accident waiting to happen.

No they are not, but I've seen dune buggies in some areas on vacation that are street legal and rentals everywhere so that tourists and rent them. I agree they are not safe to be on the road!!
