How does the electric company read the meter in your city?

In Israel, the electric company is saving its costs by offloading the most boring job in the universe to the customers. We now have to do the reading of the electric meter I have to go to the hallway, get into their app, and take a picture of the meter. They will then send me the bill about a month later by email. I find that this is very intrusive, and last payment period, two months ago, I didn't have time to do this. I am hoping that my bill will be lower as the last time it might not have been read by a person, and AI just came up with a number. What do you think?

Most meters in the u.s. have been digital for years. Not only do I have an app that I can get a breakdown of my usage, but it sends real-time data to the eletric company, so I can see on a daily basis how much I owe, and when the bill will be ready to be paid.

Wow! So you can really see when you have been using too much electricity! Our company is making us do THEIR work. . .

@lifecoachjerusalem Yes, if you understand what the numbers mean. I personally have solar on my house, so my usage isn't typical.

Someone still comes every month to read the meter, yeah still old school way.

We missed reading the meter once and the bill was horrendous. It took the average for the district but there was a huge mine nearby so the bill was really high.
