OH, yes. The originals are always the best. I think anyway. The ones that come to mind are like Vincent Price who brought so many of Edgar Allen Poe's characters to life in the 60s. He was born Vincent Leonard Price Jr. on May 27, 1911, and lived until October 25, 1993. He was into art and had quite a collection.
Then there was Boris Karloff who was born William Henry Pratt on November 23, 1887, and lived until February 2, 1969. He had over 70 small parts (many were uncredited) before doing Frankenstein in 1931. The makeup for that role took 3 hours each day. But his make up for The Mummy (1932) took 8 hours each day. That doesn't count the hours at the end of the day to take it off.
Then we have Bela Lugosi who was born on October 20, 1882, and died on August 16, 1956. He is the most original actor who brought Dracula to life and made it the iconic character it is today. I think that the best version of Dracula was his 1932 interpretation. Ten other actors portrayed the vampire but I Lugosi did the best in bringing the character to life
And, last but not least is Lon Chaney, Jr. He was born on February 10, 1906, and died on July 12, 1973. He started his career at age six months joining his parents on stage. He learned the craft working at his father's side. He is most famous for his portrayal of the Wolfman in 1941.
I think that these four actors were the best in horror in an era that was all black and white. They were the original horror actors that made horror what it is today. I think that black and white films made the horror film even more realistic and scary.
Your thoughts.
The picture option doesn't seem to be working or I would have added a picture of the three main ones.

I am with you on these. I remember them very well.
Not trashy horror for sure, such talent they brought.
For a modern horror, I like Gary Oldman as Drac.

I remember watching a Dracula movie of the silent era. That was really scary inspite of no sound effects and no color !
