SIMHACHALAM HILLY FOREST

September 18, 2025 2:06pm CST
This picture was captured from bottom of one of the  prominent temples In the forest region of Eastern Ghats Andhra Pradesh. They are Simhachalam hilly forest area. The area is also popular for trekking and hiking. These hills covered around 32Km.Every year a festival is held called the Giri pradhakshin..Means devotees walk 32 to 40Km around the hill. The hill has variety of flora and fauna .The fragrant champaka flower touch the nose while trekking, Tamarind trees , Jack fruits , Figs, Wood apples, Pinapples, Custard apples and many medicinal plants were seen here. There are many sellers of this wealth at the bottom of the hill. There were  continues sounds from insects or birds but nothing visible. No animals found.Even monkeys are also very less in number. But locals said this hill has dangerous animal species like Bear , Python, Cobra, Mongoose , Fox. Locals said that these animals sometimes May go down from the Hill during nights.. Yes there is a possibility as these hills are so close to Human's habitat. I don't know what has hidden behind bushes but the sounds were somewhat fearful to hear.  With a little risk, I collected a bag full of wood apples from the tree.I don't know what to do with them. But I found fun in collecting the Simhachalam's Forest wealth.Have you ever had such an experience of collecting forests wealth for free? In childhood ,I used to break the wood apple and  had it by mixing the pulp with sugar.. What are your ideas?

Growing up on a farm with forests all around us, we often picked fruits, nuts and berries in the forests and often gathered plants that mom made into foods for us from the countryside around the forests. I've heard of wood apples but never seen them so don't know what you can make with them. I hope you enjoy them.

@Kusumakrishna My mom passed away in 2002 and I still miss her. She made some really good foods from the things we collected out in the wild... It's good your mom asked you to do some work in the garden once in a while.

I have collected a few things when I visited my relative’s village. We went into the nearby woods and ended up collecting tamarind and guavas. Your story reminded me of that fun little adventure.

@Kusumakrishna Just finding tamarind and guavas felt like a treat to me. Human ingenuity is truly amazing. Garden on earth is no problem, now we are researching to achieve farming in space.

Who planted there The trees of tamarind , gauva , wood and custard apples etc,.it is nature's wonder creation.May be we are taking that seed sampling from forests and transplanting in our gardens... It seems like we can live in forest if we are not bothered by wild animals because we have running water and fruits to eat.pollution free zone even in human habitat also we may not live that healthy..

Do you live to trekking? I think that's a cool sports. I don't usually pick anything from a tree i just admire the nature's beauty.
