Keeping children safe

I saw this sign at Lake Leschenaultia. This is a very popular holiday spot near Chidlow and dozens of families flock there around Chrismas and during school holidays which, for Western Australia, started today. Kids will all have two weeks holiday.
The sign says ‘Direct Parent Supervision is The Only Supervision’, and isn’t that just the truth? It’s easy when people are grouped together, especially around bodies of water, to think everyone is looking out for the safety of children but that isn’t always so. It’s really up to parents to watch their own.

Parents especially in holiday spots like this should keep an eagle eye out for their kids,

That's a good reminder. I almost drown at a community park with a swimming hole one time..( bit of an exaggeration) but I had my hands and arms pinned to my side by a small inner tube. I couldn't swim or stand up. I was bobbing up and down like a cork..no one was paying attention to me. I yelled help and saw my dad tear off his shirt and jump in the water. He rescued me of course.

I would think besides parents' watch there should also be a life guard where there are water bodies - just saying

That is so true on so many levels. Kids are usually taught not to trust strangers, so what are they going to do if a stranger with perfectly good intentions comes up to the kid? Not to mention that it's difficult enough to get kids to obey their own parents, never mind another adult!
