Rings and the Greatest Love

I cherish my wedding and engagement rings. They symbolize the love and commitment that my husband pledged to me years ago. I often will glance down at them on my finger over the course of the day, and feel his love and the hope that I felt when he slipped that engagement ring onto my finger and asked me that very serious question. I remember shortly after my mother went to live at the retirement residence, and some of her things were boxed up and divided amongst my 3 brothers and myself. Somehow, I acquired a box that had a bag in it with her jewelry, including her rings. I remember texting my brother why was her wedding set in with the rest of her rings? He did not answer me. After losing a SIL and a BIL I noticed that both of their spouses stopped wearing their bands. That makes me sad, it is a very big reminder. But in my eyes, they are still married. And I've told my husband that I will wear my wedding set all of the days of my life. He doesn't say much about it. Last night we were talking about it, and I reminded him that his mother wore hers until the nursing staff asked the family to remove the rings as she became unresponsive her last few days of life. My rings symbolize and remind me of the greatest love that my heart has known.

Your post made me smile. Some people still celebrate pure love.

Yes, I celebrate pure love, I know that it is alive and well in my extended family as well as in my son's marriage.

I am a person who doesn't wear any kinds of jewlleries. I took off wedding rings after wedding and put them all in the safe It doesn't mean that I forget my role. It is just a kind of my personal habit that I don't wear any jewlleries.

No, of course it does not mean that you forget your role. And although a ring is visible to all, it is the devotion and love that look back at me when I look at my ring set.

My mom is still wearing hers. We didn't take it off as she loved it.

After my dad passed my mom resized his wedding band and for the rest of her life she wore both bands on her ring finger, I have both of them in my jewelry box but who will care when I am gone,

That was a very sweet thing that she did. I will probably wear my husband's ring on a chain around my neck and give it to my son when I go. My wedding set will go to one of the twins and my mother's set will go to the other twin.

My mom wore her wedding ring until her very last days but she gave her engagement ring diamond to my middle daughter to have reset when she got engaged.

I think that is so sweet that the ring was passed down. Wearing a wedding ring sets an example to the littles that there is such a thing as one true love. That is how I feel.
