Ordered wrong item on Amazon

I placed an order on Amazon and after I did it, I realized I ordered the wrong version of a book. I thought I can just remove that book from the order and add the correct one to it but that option is not available. I can cancel the book, but that would mean my order no longer qualifies for free shipping.
I thought of canceling the entire order and placing a new one but I have used a $10 Amazon gift card and I’m not sure what’s going to happen to it if I cancel the order. I guess my mom will be stuck with the wrong version of the book that she wanted.
Amazon did give me free shipping for the next 24 hours so I can order the new book for her but then what do I do with the book I already ordered initially?

No. I tried the chat thing. It told to how to replace an item but I didn’t find such a thing. Based on my findings it seems you can cancel an item, not replace it, however, if I can cancel it won’t qualify for free shipping anymore as total would be below $35. And I can cancel the entire order potentially, however, not sure what would happen to my $10 Amazon gift card I used.
I told my mom about what happened and she seems ok with this version of the book.

@lovebuglena As long as your mom is happy, that's good.

Perhaps it can be returned once it’s shipped but then I bet they’ll charge shipping to return it.

That is the drawback of placing an online order. You could have easily contacted a bookstore to exchange your book for the correct one if you had placed your order there, but online orders will have fewer options, making it difficult to change your order. However, this will involve a number of factors, such as the shipping cost they incurred and numerous other aspects of the sale in question.

The book I ordered was slightly lower in price than when I first looked at it. I thought the price had changed and I was glad to pay less. But after placing the order I saw the book at the price I saw originally and realized it was the extended version. What I got was not. And my mom wanted the extended version. I can order this one and will get it shipped for free, however, then we’ll be stuck with two books.

@lovebuglena Well, buying two versions of the book is an option. Hopefully, there's a way to return the extra one since you only need a single copy at the moment.
