Disruptive wind.

I am reliably informed that this afternoon we will have wind. Schools and public parks will close at noon, something that would have made my day if it had happened during my own school days. Back then my school suffered many emergency closures, never because of wind, but because of anonymously telephoned bomb scares; some of those menaces were called in by my class mates who didn’t like maths - there was a pattern! Boats to Scotland have been cancelled, but I imagine that, as usual, people are overreacting to cover themselves. Shops will certainly not be closing because of a few gusts of wind, but the people who work in them now have to make hasty arrangements for their children who will be arriving home at noon rather than at the usual 3.30. So I’m just going to light a fire and read.

I've never heard of closures because of wind. Here in the US in the past few years they've been closing schools due to the heat. HA! When I went to school you roasted in the afternoon with the windows open and the sun shining in. Our heads would swim with the heat.

We spoke to our son yesterday who said his part of Mayo was under an 'orange alert'. It takes a lot to close schools here. I can only think of ongoing and excessively high temperatures being a reason.

We have small dog wind advisories due to wind, but our schools have never been canceled for it. That’s quite something.

Ours is worse. Classes and offices are always disruptive always. And we can't do away with it for we are always visited by strong typhoons regularly. Imagine we have 20 to 26 typhoons every year.
