Red Dust Revival on Lake Perkolilli

While we were in Beacon, we saw this vintage car on a trailer and stopped to talk to the owner. The car was a 1928 Falcon Knight and he was going out to Lake Perkoliili (isn’t that just the best Australian name?) to race it against others. We’d never heard of the event but it is held over a week every couple of years.
The antique cars race on a claypan on the outskirts of Kalgoorlie. They have time trials rather than pitting the cars against each other in an actual ‘race’. Known as the Red Dust Revival, the event re-enacts races held on the lake over a century ago. Between 1914 and 1939, cars reached speeds of 200 kms per hour on the lake's hard, smooth surface.
You can read more about it if you click on the link. We’re hoping we might still be mobile enough to go there next time it’s held.

I hope you and Vince can attend the next time the time trials are held. Sounds really cool.

Sounds cool, although the cars used in it aren't vintage..It sounds a bit similar to the races at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
