I doubt if presence of Kenyan Police in Haiti is helpful

I like to stay abreast on matters related to Kenya’s contribution to other countries. We gladly have so many professionals in almost all countries around the world. Labourers, teachers, medics, nurses, nannies … name them! Logically, these professionals earn a living by contributing to the well-being of the people where they serve. What I fail to understand however, is how Haitians are benefiting from the presence of Kenyan Police in their country. There are allegations that their deployment were for the benefit of a top greedy Kenyan politician who eyed to monetary and material support that was being offered by the US and other sponsoring countries. Many Haitian civilians have opined that the Kenya-led mission is of very little impact and they are still suffering from attack by armed ruthless gangs. So far at least three officers from the Kenyan Police deployed in Haiti have lost their lives according to media reports. Calls by local humanitarian groups for the police to be brought back home fall on deaf ears of the greedy politicians led by the rather defiant president. Luckily however, the US has rethought its funding and my cut in soon, meaning the Kenyan Police are likely to fly back home albeit with very little or o achievement.

@SIDIKIMPOLE if I was in charge I would have a meeting with the gang leaders to understand what is happening... what they want... etc.

Sure, the police are suffering in Haiti yet the politicians benefiting from the deal are safe at home!

I really don’t think any other country’s police will make a difference, sadly. Haiti has to get a stable government. No government is without corruption, but they have to get to a point where they don’t take out and out bribes to let gangs run rampant. Haiti needs help, but they won’t fix anything until they start helping themselves.

Sure, their real change should arise from themselves. It is their national responsibility
