Caravan Parks in Australia - Part One

I haven’t given much thought about whether some of our members really understand or know much about caravan parks so I’m going to tell you a little about some of the ones we’ve been to. I hope I don’t sound condescending. Caravan parks usually accommodate caravans which are towed by another vehicle, motor-homes and those travelling with trailers which they might sleep in or which might hold tents and other camping equipment. Some parks now offer chalets/cottages/huts for families, and at some parks, you can hire and park next to what is called an ensuite which gives you your own toilet and shower. There may be markings on the ground indicating which is your ‘patch’ or there may be strips of bush between cleared areas. If you book a powered site, you can hook up to electricity. You might also be able to hook up to water and a waste water outlet. To empty toilet caskets, there are dump points in many towns now that tourism is such a big thing. That’s enough for one discussion. I’ll write more about the amenities next time. The photo shows a bush site at Dryandra. There were small cleared areas set apart from each other with a bush toilet (self-composting) within easy walking distance.

We have similar here. At least for tent camping to campers being parked. And some have electric and water.

We stayed at some lovely places in Ireland. One was a walled garden.

We have camps for motorhomes here. The most famous ones are probably Good Sam Parks.

A few years ago I spent the night in a campground in a state park in Tennessee. They had a variety of spots, from “primitive camping” (no facilities or electricity) to full electric, water, and cable hookups. There was a nice bath house in the middle.

That sounds a bit similar to what we have here. There is quite a variation between the 'big' parks and the smaller ones.

It makes travelling easier if there are places to camp.

When I was looking at campsites in France, I saw that many now list if they have WiFi as well as power points

We're in one tonight that has wifi but mostly they don't. We can sometimes use the hotspot off the phone.

@Ronrybs My server, if that's the right word, is useless outside of the metro area so we'll change my server shortly,

We have similar facilities here in the US. There are various grades from really roughing it to places with hookups for water, electric, etc.
