Those pesky birds! / myLot

As I’m sure you know I love to watch the birds in the garden, and I’m happy to share with them especially when we have more than enough of some produce, but I just wish they would be a bit more considerate! We have three biggish apple trees and they produce more apples than we can eat, but the birds like to choose the ripest ones and then peck just a little bit from one at a time – can you see the tiny hole pecked in the apple in the photo? Of course that is enough to cause the apple to start to go bad, so the next day the birds come again, look at the damaged apple and go ‘Oh I don’t want that bad one, I’ll have this nice perfect ripe one instead’ and peck just a tiny bit from another apple. I wish they would concentrate on one or two! Once the apples are damaged we can’t store them or give them away so guess who gets to eat all the pecked ones that the birds turn their beaks up at? You could make lots of things with those. I make jelly, applesauce, apple butter and apple pie filling.

I haven't made any jelly this year because our cupboard is already full of jams and jellies! I have made lots of apple sauce though, and apple butter for the first time!

I imagine who eats all the pecked apples. You can make apple jelly using them.

When I lived in Latvia we had five apple trees in the garden, Never any problems with birds because we put out food for them, However, I funny sight was one winter when some rotten apples high up had not fallen down and then snow came and I walked outside and this bird is sitting on a snowy apple,
