Today's haul

Today I went to the recycling centre/ tip, to get rid of the rusty remains of an old wheelbarrow (which we already recycled as a barbecue, but now the entire bottom has rusted away!), some empty gas canisters from camping, and a cracked and chipped bowl. I had a bag with the smaller things in and went around depositing them in the various skips/ dumpsters, and the bowl was the last item to go into the skip for glass, ceramics, rocks and rubble of all kinds. Well I didn’t find a mirror this time, but I did find a nice selection of glasses and mugs which I surreptitiously squirreled away into my now-empty bag. Six nice mugs, all in perfect condition, three glasses, and a pretty and delicate wine glass, all undamaged. I washed them all and will donate the mugs to a charity shop. I quite like a couple of them but we already have lots of mugs. The glasses I added to our collection, but the wine glass I have saved. It’s really pretty and delicate, with a hint of iridescent colour like a bubble, and it’s inscribed ‘Fabulous friend’ in gold. I think I will give it to a friend at Christmas! We're not really in part of the country that was big on dairying, but you never know!

@Fleura I know, but you would be surprised where these things are found. Earlier this year we found two huge inner wheels from a farm cart….in an antique shop in Lichfield !

You know what? I actually did. I swapped it for a rather dull one I hardly ever use.

It is encouraging to know that there are places where old items are resold for recycling, giving them a chance to find new homes and extending their usefulness instead of being discarded in trash dumpsters.

Those are pretty objects, I am glad you could get them and they had not been broken when someone threw them there.
