The old Zen master, Grotley Resposki, was waxing lyrical about love, as he had worked with the minds of his students, over the years, but still, most of them, still were missing an essential element in their development as people.
And so, he gathered them together, and he said:
"Really, my friends, all there is is love."
"And so, trying to develop a Zen mind, at the expense of love, never makes you a better person than you were, because without love, you are stonkered, no matter how strong your mind might become. On its own, the mind is nothing without the accompanying love in your heart, guiding, and being, you too."
"I do not mean here, of course, a diverted, compromised, love for the life of your body."
"This love of your body must be a real love, and be utilised by you in knowing God more, rather than your just loving life, for the sake of that life, and so becoming a sports person, for example, loving the effects of that sport on your body, but missing out on allowing that love to take you to higher places instead."
A student then asked the master this question.
"Is love really that important, and what type of love must this be?"
The old Zen master answered:
"Love powers all else into existence, but love can also destroy all else too, when love's energy is misdirected into feeding yourself with it alone, and so satisfying your own desires, rather than your carrying out the will of God, for your life."
"Love should power you rightly."
"Love all from a good heart, rather than trying to live with just a good mind, but with a much lesser developed heart of love."
And just so, the old Zen master finished his little discourse on love, and went back into his room, at the monastery, giving time for his students to digest all of what he had just said to them.

The old Zen master loved from the heart, not just from an idea of love, as held by his mind.

You have an excellent point that love should be used in a good way.

Yes, to use love for our own ill-gotten purposes is an abuse of love, and we should try to love, without wanting any desires to be fulfilled by our doing so. We should try to love as God loves, unconditionally, without any attachements, or wants, added to it.

Loving everything right before us including those around us (the tough part!) elevates meaning in our lives.
There should be no borders to love as everything is there for a purpose.
Use what is within reach physically and mentally than look at what others have wistfully.
Love emanating from the heart, the quintessence of it, knows no bounds.

That's nicely put, siva.
We should never allow ourselves to be distracted away from love, and loving.

@Shiva49 Yes, moving away from love to connect solely to other desires, and emotions, is never the best way to live.

@innertalks Thanks Steve.
We are tested and tempted to stray away from love but when we are steadfast with love as the guiding factor, we are well on our way to a meaningful, purposeful, and fulfilling life.
