It's October so for us folks in the U S, we're steam rolling toward Halloween or Samhain. It's time to watch some spooky movies or read some heart stomping novels. Maybe even go stare at the moon. October is when I think about the buildings that I have been in. And buildings that I am attracted to. University stone buildings. Cathedrals and Gothic Catholic churches. Queen Anne mansions. Attics that didn't have proper floors and basements that didn't have windows so felt like a cave. And barns with high up hay mows that had huge windows with grand views and the possibility of falling out of..... Anybody else love the old mansions? The creaking floor boards and loose stairs? Maybe a crazy tall lighthouse sitting above crashing ocean waves more your bag? Maybe a hobbit hole deep in the woods somewhere?

I love stuff like that. It’s fun, interesting, and captivating. I need to start watching scary movies right about now!

All those things are good to do. Old mansions very cool, but I shudder when I think how much it costs to heat them. I know most only heat a few rooms, but still...drafty as all get out.

Halloween has always held a different meaning for me. It was never about spooky season (although I did enjoy exploring spiret halloween and looking around), it held a more special place in my heart. My parrents married on halloween, so I'd always celebrated both, and my offical wedding day was the day before, but our licience was recorded on halloween, so my husband, George, and I celebrate both days.
