Good afternoon.
Second attempt at posting. I tried posting a bit ago and the site refused to load.
But, George is now inside, the rain is back, and I did a little math. With the glasses we have, he's getting roughly 26 onces of water/day, plus the tube flushes which are between six/eight a day. So we've upped our game. Still don't know if the tube can stay out, or if it'll be replaced. but... at least we've found something he likes.
So.... I can hope this works and he's able to self hydrate. I'll find out one way or another as we do more tests. But, if we can get him drinking enough.... that'll be one step closer to the tube staying out. The factor they'll be looking for, is if he is able to swollow solids safely enough. But.... We're praying he's well enough. We have to get permissions and clearances to get some tests done.

I can see him trying, which is a good place to start.

This site is rather finicky, isn't it? I hope all goes well getting permissions and clearances.

No, it needs to be taken out. The provider we spoke with, didn't want to take it out without endoscopy guidence, because it's been in there so long scar tissue could've formed around it where she couldn't see. So, we're working on getting the pre-tests and clearances done because he's on blood thinner and will need to be put under. At that time, the doctor will decide if a replacment is needed, or if it can stay out and I'll be given after care instructions.
He's been making a more concious effort to drink other fluids, so that's a start at least.

Hoping and praying that George will be able to stay hydrated himself.

Well we'll find out one way or the other soon enough. If the doctor determines his slow swollow isn't a hinderance, then he'll have to. Or, he'll be gone or back in the hospital with a new stoma and a new tube.

I hope all goes well and George can eventually get the tube out.
