Turning a Country into a Tourist Toilet

Many years ago, Jamaica was a first class location, visited by only those of that class. Then the idea of turning it into a tourist toilet came up. Many fought against it but lost. Today, Jamaica is full of hotels which house people with all the manners and behaviour of Donald Trump. Instead of the upper class gentleman speaking to the clerk in a calm soft voice there is the crap guy shouting and acting as if he's a step from violence. The government wants to put up more hotels, blocking locals access to the sea and virtually creating an apartheid where only tourists and millionaires can flock.

It seems to me that there are too many tourists destroying every place in the world. I was happy to travel to many places before that time.

@jaylar And there are many tourists who want "souvenirs" and destroy pieces of the places they are visiting.

in 'ancient days' the places were normal. They weren't reorganised for the pleasure of tourists.

@marguicha that's another thing.. for we are 'inferior' to them. You should see the Americans at the front desk acting just like Trump

My parents were there 20+ years ago for a destination wedding. They felt very unsafe even then. There were men on waverunners approaching them in the water trying to sell them pot. They said they would never go back.

Today if they went to an all inclusive the only locals they would see would be staff. There is security to prevent locals from the captured beaches. Many people came and come to Jamaica for ganja. We used to have the best in the world. I rem. getting a spliff that Bob Marley called 'lamb's bread'.

@NJChicaa that is why I said 'today' as opposed to when they came.

@jaylar Tourism is the suckyest industry there is. It spoils everything for locals no matter how "sensitively" it's done. And it pushes up prices for locals.
