A book is coming out the end of this month entitled "Sisters in Death" by Eli Frankel. He sees very definite correlations between the death of Elizabeth Short in Los Angeles back in 1947 and a similar murder of a woman named Leila Welsh in Kansas City, Kansas in 1941. In both cases there was a large piece of thigh skin cut in a horseshoe shape taken from both the bodies. The author was actually able to interview the woman, Betty Bursinger, who was the woman who came upon and reported the layed out body of Elizabeth Short. He really seemed knowledgeable and had reason to believe his information was correct. It almost made me give a huge sigh of relief and wondered if there would be any announcement from Los Angeles Police Department or other formal announcements might be expected. So many similarities and he lays them all out very knowledgeably and makes it sound so probable. But then another author, Larry Harnisch, who writes for The Daily Mirror in Los Angeles debunks Frankel's entire book in an article he wrote May19, 2025. He says the man Frankel says committed these two murders, Herman Carl Balsinger, was actually in the military at the time of these murders and could not have done them. Where does that leave the reader who set down $20+ for the book in the belief that what he said was true? It also seems like a pretty botched job of research to have charged this man with doing both of these murders when he was in the military and records of this are free to the public. Once again, we seem to not have an ending to these two horrific murders. I think that many of these writers are really making a lot of money all most fraudulently. They just think up a plausible story, write a book about it and then set back and wait for the money to start rolling in. Sure, this happens time and time again, but it seems almost like a crime in itself. A crime for the families of these people that the authors accuse members of doing such awful deeds. What are your thoughts? The picture is from medium.com

So the suspect was in the military. Where was he stationed and where did he go 'on leave'? And what did he do with the skin? And why did Frankel decide Herman was resposible? Hmmmm?

I wondered about leave too. I wonder what was done with the skin too. I know some creeps like that keep souvenirs but skin? Frankel decided Herman was responsible because of the skin cut from the hip on both women.

@celticeagle Ok, but why? Did Herman have horseshoe-shaped skin patches in his private collection? Enquiring minds want to know!

So many unsolved murders out there and so many different opinions. It would be great if some of them could be solved.

Me too. I just think that there are so many stories being told about these murders. We will probably never know what really happened or who actually did the deed.

And so many writers seem to be cashing in telling their version of it all.
