The Pull

Our tickets were booked for the journey. An oversight of the source station and we missed the train. We were going to a holy place. It's still not clear how it got missed. I got to notice my mistake on our way to the station. How could I be so casual!!! Anyways, we booked a bus ticket to the airport, boarded the flight, shelled a lumsome of bucks and finally reached the homestay we'd booked. Tired and exhausted, we were in for a shock and disappointment when the lodge had nothing that it boasted of, except the basic necessary amenities. Our friend who we'd invited to stay did meet us and we spent a few hours at the holy temple. We stayed, offered pujas, had the divine darshan of the deity close-up to our heart's content. The miracle was, we never thought, we could make it and yet we did. Starting with the flight, we had dinner as it was a festive occasion. Economy class never serves otherwise unless you choose (at premium). We were charged less for the vehicle that drove us to the lodge. The lodge charged us less when I asked for a clarification from them. We were met with good people who helped us in other ways. When we were tired, we could get cool shade and water to refresh us from the thick crowd. We could get chances to go ahead of the crowd to have a better view of the Deity. Finally, we never thought we'd have the money to make it through. And yet we are back, safe and sound with no difficulty on the way. If He hadn't pulled, we'd not be able to book the flight in the first place. Someone said that when the Lord decides, He provides and He protects. One lesson was also learnt; to check and re-check, and not waste money like this. I don't know whether it was a punishment of sorts or was it my (read our) debts getting cleared. Have you had an experience like this, especially when you'd decided to go on a pilgrimage?

I think those were all trials, but you overcame them well.

I’ve never really been in a pilgrimage. I’m not sure what an American equivalent would be. It sounds like your journey was arduous.

It's like going to a cathedral of a holy saint to another city or region outside your own. The journey had its incidental difficulties, yes, and we went sleepless for over 29 hours, shivered in the cold night, caught cold, but stayed strong and kept going with the strength bestowed upon us.
