Short Story: Spiritual decision making

The old guru was a colourful figure indeed

Sri Ramanuel Llewellyn, a renowned spiritual teacher, was talking to his students about spiritual decision making. Here is what he said to them: “We can make life decisions about what job we might want to do, or what place we might want to travel too, but to make a spiritual decision, requires us to align our decision making to God’s will, for our lives.” “Our decisions are then following what God is wanting for us to do in our life.” “Deciding things amongst options involves you in allowing things to stay attuned to God, and so every decision made must be God centred, with God being aligned in his love to the decision, so that the decision is not one not involving, or not including, love in it.” “How do we discern the will of God for our life”? “We must reach past the outpasts of our mind, as our mind alone, can never connect to God, nor to his decisions for our life.” “We must connect to God through a heart based connection, through love, and through living from truth wisely, and by checking every decision to the base of truth, love, peace, and wisdom.” “Our choices must reflect our connection to God in them." "Our decisions should not reflect who we are, within only ourselves, but who God is to us, when he is in us, as the central figure in our lives." "Spiritual decisions, then, are not about you living your life for you; they are about you deciding what is the best way that you can live for God, in your life.” Photo Credit: The photo used in this article was sourced from the free media site, pixabay.com The old guru was a colourful figure, indeed!

We have to depend on God for both mental and physical strength but the decision has to be made by us.

Yes, that is well put. In any part of ourselves, we need God's input to operate that part optimally for God, and for his purpose for our life. We can never go off alone, and just try to live as our mental, and physical self, as some sports people, and business people do. We need a balanced life, where we have spiritual input, and soul connection, to God too. The way we live our life is largely a decision we make for ourselves, but we should not block off guidance, coming into us from God, and from our higher self too.

@aninditasen Yes, in the end, the decision comes down to us to make for ourselves, as God gives us the freedom to choose what way we will go, while at the same time, before making any half thought-over decisions too hastily, we should consult with others, pray about it to God, and listen to God's guidance, before we make any decision.

@innertalks That's true. We have to take our own decision and can ask for guidance from our well wishes but prayers have to be there.

Yes, our faith is very important, and it keeps us better connected to God, so that our spiritual decisions are then better ones then too.

Living for God is the best way to live and the only way to live.

Yes, I agree with you there. Living for God ensures that all of our decisions are God centred ones then too.

Yes, luckily, most of us can become a bit wiser from our life experiences, as we get older too. Some people seem to be able to become more wiser than others though, and perhaps, they work with themselves harder, and try to stay more connected to God too.

I have been leading my life as a homage to God. It is more through work than prayers. I keep in mind "the hand that serves is holier than the lips that pray" Of course, it is better to have a proper balance between them. I seek guidance from those who were very close to me but have passed on. I get comfort that they will know me better now than when they were alive.

I think that our soul is more connected to God than our body/mind is, and so we should stay connected more to this higher part of ourselves too. When we stop honouring God, and paying homage to his presence, our soul stays connected on the path to God, but it then waits in place for us to finish with our side journeys, and come back to it so it can continue moving on its journey for God. These side journeys serve their purpose too, if we learn from them, and see the value of reconnecting to God and our soul, to live again a more spiritual life. We can learn life wisdom from others too, as you are doing, and have done in your life. I have heard it said that every path we take can take us higher in the end, if we allow ourselves to see the truth of God, in it, as God is everywhere, and we cannot ever completely ever cut ourselves off from God.

@Shiva49 The idea of rebirth, and not completing our living in one lifetime, is a fascinating one, but I am not so sure about it myself, as I feel, for me, at least, only one life is enough, as I would not want to come back here for another one. We probably cannot learn it all the first time around though, so perhaps, our soul learning continues on some other plane of existence, like some say, on some inner world, such as the astral world. After completing high school here, it makes sense to me that we then enrol in a higher school elsewhere, such as a University, on the Astral plane, rather than coming back here again to start over again, with another repeated year in kindergarten, here.

@innertalks I never like to go back in time too as certain breaks I got even out of the blue might not be repeated. I have seen two types of people. One cannot have enough of their time here and another looking further ahead sort of not wanting to spend more time here. I like to move on as it could well end up as "did he jump or was he pushed?" I accept whatever is in store for me ahead. I have seen a few overstaying their welcome as others seem to be in a hurry to pursue "other interests"!
