So, before I go any further , let’s get this straight. I don’t mean books about Ladybirds, as in the little creatures. I mean books published by the company called Ladybird. Right, now that’s cleared up, let’s get on with things shall we ….. I was watching a programme the other day …..well okay, not watching it, but it was on the tv and I was in the room , so as good as watching it. It was either an article on the news or an article on an antique programme …..yes, that’s how much notice I was taking at the time ! Anyway, they were talking about Ladybird books and how valuable they were….. Well, my shell likes were fully alert at this ….. I have , hundreds of Ladybirds books in the loft. I have always loved reading and when I was a child to be given a new book was heaven for me. I was one of those children who loved books and stories and always took care of my things , so although the books are in the loft I know that they are in almost new condition. I will keep them and hope that they will increase even more in value as time goes on ….. When I do sell I might even be able to buy a villa, by a white sandy beach and be served cocktails by a hunky waiter …. Well , a girl can dream can’t she ! They possibly won’t be worth enough for all that but certainly more than a bag of chips and a can of tango ! Have you got anything valuable from when you were a child ?

I sold some Ladybird books a while back. I used to buy them for our sons. On Antiques Roadshow a while back, a woman had original sketches from the books as her son was the model for Peter.

@Traceyjayne Yes, those were the books. It was an interesting segment on the show. The lady was also the model for Peter and Jane's mother.

My dad has a bunch of Chip Hilton books that are worth something. I guess it was about a young student who liked to play basketball. He has over a dozen, and they are worth a couple hundred each. He wouldn’t ever sell them though. My grandpa gave me a book about our church denomination, published back in 1818. It was worth $350 until my dad went on a binge and got rid of dozens of books…including that one, unfortunately.

All our childhood books were given away to a children´s library by my father. The worst part of it was that many were in English and those kids only knew Spanish. We never forgave our father for that.

My Mom saved and gave me my favorite children's book, recently. It is no longer in print. It is called "Marigold and the Dragon". Have you heard of it?

@Traceyjayne I have nothing left from childhood, unlike my wife who has just about everything. I have, however, very fond memories of Ladybird books. Butterflies, Moths and other Insects is one I remember well. I also loved the travel series they had - Flight One to America, Flight four to Africa etc.

No Ladybird books here. Good luck when you go to sell them. The collectibles I have are not related to my childhood.
