Fingers Crossed for Refund Time

I know it is still a little bit aways from income tax time but, let me tell you I have some very important things I plan to take care of with that money to help get us caught up with anything big we need taken care of. I have no idea what to expect thanks to the idiot in charge's tax plans designed to screw over the working class but I pray if I can get even half as much as last year I can be ok. I've always used that money to take care of big expenses or to take care of any large expenses. Now that I am officially divorced I have no idea if that will be a good or bad effect if any at all on my refund this time around. Do you file taxes? Do you use that money to catch up or to treat yourself? Or are you not a fan of tax refunds (I've learned some don't like it)?

I always hate the word "refund." Of course, it depends on what it's for. For example, if it is because someone had more tax withheld than they owed, that's a refund. If it's a big check that is really just a redistribution of wealth, that's not a refund at all. In any event, I rarely get any money back, and the only reason I don't like "refunds" is because, if I get one, it means I am not making much money. I'd much rather have money in the bank than a onetime windfall that gets me nowhere.

@porwest i dont think its wrong to use some of the money you get back to pay for things you otherwise wouldn't have enough left over after taking care of responsibilities to afford or even to do a little more extra for your responsibilities. It all depends on the person. you have every right not to like it but you cant deny it definitely helps whoever may need it that gets it.

@IvySaysHi Like I say about taxes, if you're waiting for a refund to pay for stuff... You're definitely doing it wrong. lol

I file every year. I don't get a lot back but don't have a lot held out so I get as much as I can in my checks. What I do get back goes on bills.

We usually get a tax refund. I mainly use it for bills.

Since I am self employed and work limited hours, I do not pay taxes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the $ you get back on your taxes is more than you were expecting being he's GIVING you extra $ BACK with NO TAXES ON INCOME - ON TIPS & a lot more, where those who are RETIRED & on SS "fixed income" don't file income taxes so we're the 1's that will be getting screwed.

im in the group whos taxes are getting raised so i have no clue what you mean about who is giving me extra back. I believe its over time that he says wont be taxed but good luck finding a company whos gonna continue to give overtime if they cant tax it. and my profession doesn't involve tips so that doesnt benefit me.
