The Unspoken Ledger: Navigating the Black Tax Burden

There’s this thing we call black tax back home — when you start doing okay, suddenly everyone around you starts needing a “little help.” I was chillin’ at the corner coffee shop the other day — the kind with cracked tiles and weak Wi-Fi — and my neighbor was talkin’ about her nephew who’s got a good job. She keeps askin’ him for money, and dude’s already bailed her out a bunch of times.
Then last Friday, she hit him up for cash again, and he sent it. By Sunday, she was blowin’ up his phone askin’ for more. I’m like, “Yo, didn’t he just give you money?” and she just shrugs like it’s nothin’.
Next thing I hear, the guy’s ghostin’ her calls and she’s mad about it. Man… people get real comfy spendin’ someone else’s grind.
Guess it’s a reminder — being generous is cool, but you gotta set some limits. Otherwise, folks keep takin’ till there’s nothing left.

That can happen no matter what color a person is.
May I ask where "back home" is? I'm not asking for an address, just a kind of general direction... I live in Missouri, USA.
