Our HOA Fees Just Went Up 11.7%

United States

That's an ENORMOUS jump! I was the President of the HOA for 4 years and two years we had zero increase and two years we had 2% and 4% increases. 11.7% is a LOT of money. Evidently the liability insurance coverage for the property went up 9% and water for irrigation went up some amount and they're replacing roofs. I mean . . . . I'm grateful there wasn't an "assessment" where we'd have to pay several thousand dollars, but $35 more per month is significant. Sigh. Everything's getting more and more expensive.

@looeyville Unfortunately the old saying “what goes up must come down” doesn’t generally apply to bills. However our electricity bills are about to fall a bit.

Living in your kind of community does have some advantages, but I have always been adamant to never live in an HOA run community. It's like being a renter with a deed, for one. That being said, I may wind up in a community like that eventually when I get too old to do things like yardwork.

It really isn't an unreasonable amount. It's $335 month now starting in 2026 and that covers all the mowing and landscaping for the entire year, pest control, street lights, water (homeowners don't pay for personal water usage), insurance on the buildings, etc. It could be worse I guess. When we moved in 12 years ago it was $235/month.

@LooeyVille It does have value when you add up what the money gets used for. Still, it's an expense you can't opt out of. Say I said, "I want to cut my own grass." I'd still have to pay the fee.

Ouch. Makes me so happy to not have any of that HOA stuff to deal with.

Wow, my son and his wife live in a neighborhood with an HOA. I wonder if their HOA fees will go up. I got to ask them.
