Ever Had a Day Full of Mixed Feelings?

Last Friday was really a day full of mixed emotions for us. My husband and I started the morning with my check-up at the general doctor. They checked my weight, height, blood pressure, and asked about any pains I’ve been feeling. Since I’m pregnant, there are only a few medications I can take, so they were careful about that. In the afternoon, we went to the OB-GYN. They found the gestational sac with the embryo inside—finally a small sign of our baby! My husband was so excited that he took a picture of the screen right away. I was happy too, but then we found out the heartbeat was only 87 bpm. The lady doing the scan said it was a bit slow and should normally be around 160, which made us worried. But the doctor later told us it might just be because the heartbeat is still starting. We’ll go back in two weeks to check again. Have you ever had a day full of mixed feelings too?

Try not to worry in the two weeks until your next checkup. Your doctor is the one you should listen to. One of my friend's daughters was pregnant this year...the lady doing her scan told her the baby was a boy. Over and over, she insisted. She had a girl. They don't know everything, just trust the doctor!

Oh Marie, thank you! You’re right though, the doctor’s words really did calm us down. I’m trying my best not to overthink things in these two weeks.

@MarieCoyle That actually makes me feel a lot better. I'll do my best to stay calm and trust the process.

@annierose Just think calm thoughts, and remember what the doctor said. One of my son in law's is a doctor. He now teaches medical school, but of course he still keeps up with everything else, too. One day we were talking about some different issues and he said ''There is a reason that they call it ''practicing medicine'' because it's always a learning process. No one is textbook perfect, and everyone having a medical issue is different.'' I believe him, the longer I live, the truer it seems. Hang in there!!

I’d definitely feel better after hearing what the doctor had to say. They know! I don’t like that the lady doing the scan worried you needlessly. I had mixed feelings hearing my niece was accepted into a prestigious leadership conference this summer. It’s great, but my niece is immature for her age (14), and I’m not sure she can handle it.

Yes, same here. Hearing the doctor explain things definitely made me feel better. I was surprised how much worry one quick comment can cause! And wow, I get what you mean about your niece. That’s exciting but also a bit nerve-racking. I hope it turns out to be a great experience for her!

How far along are you? Perhaps it's too early to hear the baby's heartbeat. 87 bpm seems to be a normal heart rate for adults. So maybe it was your heart rate that was detected. Hoping the best for you and your baby and family.

I’m still pretty early on, so yeah, that might be why the heartbeat isn’t super strong yet. Thank you for the kind wishes. We’re hoping everything keeps moving in a good direction.

How exciting to see the baby. Your doctor is the one to listen to.
