If not carefully handled Discovery of Gold could cause chaos in a remote Kenyan village

Towards the end of last month, a certain foreign company discovered Gold Deposits in a remote village called Ikolomani in western Kenya. The deposits are estimated at Sh. 700B and their mining could affect 300 acres of land, displacing over 700 households. A larger part of those to be affected are unwilling to leave their ancestral land despite the government’s assurance of compensation. Worse, interfamily and interclan conflicts on proper land ownership have already begun. My concern is the Gold could cause more harm than good unless there is fairness and mutual agreement.

Just like oil. Many oil producing countries lack peace. For instance Nigeria and Sudan

Unfortunately it will be mishandled by our greedy and corrupt leaders in collaboration with their friends abroad.
