It became a very popular Christmas song when it was sung by American singer and songwriter Gene Autry. The song was written in 1949 by Johnny Marks based on the 1939 story of the same name. Autry’s recording went straight to number one on the US charts in Christmas 1949.
Every holiday it is worth watching the TV special “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” with lots of animation fun as Rudolph becomes the most famous reindeer of all. However, the story goes that Rudolph did not just appear; he was born like any other reindeer and had a shiny nose. Now this caused his father, one of Santa’s main reindeer, great problems, but later he was proud of his son.
So I ask you, Rudolph is the son of which reindeer? You know their names.

I think but am not sure that he was either Donner or Blitzens son. My grandparents went to see Gene Autry when my mother was young..Gene said "What a cute little girl"..and she was indeed
