Christmas Gift Exchange Game

United States

As you already know, I made it to the girls' Christmas party last night. There were 10 of us ranging in age from 49 to 77. Some people call this game "Dirty Santa" or "White Elephant" game but we play with nice gifts, not prank or trashy gifts. We each buy a $25 gift and wrap it and place it under the tree. We sit around in a circle and everybody chooses a gift from under the tree. Then we each take turns rolling a single die (dice) and we respond according to what number it lands on. So for example, if it lands on a 6, you get to steal somebody else's gift and give them the one you have. Or you all pass your gifts to the left or the right. It's really a lot of fun. I like landing on "STEAL!" hahaha. Have you ever played this game in a similar fashion?

Yes, but never with trashy gifts. I haven’t played it in a long time though. I kind of feel badly when someone is obviously disappointed with what they get. You’d think people could fake politeness better.

So what did you end up with? I've never played. Never mind. I just saw it in the comments!

The only time we ever had a Christmas party at the last place I worked had this game. I got a Snoopy/Peanuts themed gift, but someone “stole” it from me. Then someone else stole it from the person who’d stolen it and exchanged it with me. I kept it the rest of the night, and gave most of the things to my sister-in-law who collects Snoopy things.

I have never played this game, but I love the idea! It is sure to be loaded with lots of laughs, possibly a few disappointments, and a good time to be had by all.

That sounds a fun game. I'll need to remember that one.
