In 2024, while traveling to Oregon for a two-week stay, I decided to spend a night using my Harvest Hosts membership. For those unfamiliar, Harvest Hosts is a program for self-contained RVers that allows you to request overnight stays at participating businesses. The idea is simple: you support their operation, and in return you get a safe, quiet place to park for the night. Over the years, I’ve stayed at museums, wineries, pubs, breweries, churches, and even a smokehouse just off I-5 near Albany, Oregon. This particular stop brought me to the Powerland Heritage Museum in Brooks, just outside of Salem. When I arrived, I was guided to a spot on the museum grounds where I could park for the night. I ended up being the only RV there, surrounded by acres of history and open space. The evening was peaceful and still, broken only by the sounds of birds that had made their home in the nearby barn. To my surprise, my daughter and granddaughter showed up to visit, turning an already special stop into a memorable family moment. One of the museum volunteers noticed we were there and generously offered us an after-hours tour of the buildings. With no crowds and the sun settling in, we wandered through the grounds as they encouraged us to enjoy our stay and explore as much as we liked. Powerland Heritage Museum spans 62 acres and includes 15 different museums, each showcasing a piece of Oregon’s industrial history. Inside the buildings were collections of old trucks, tractors, cars, and motorcycles and so much more, each one telling its own story of the past. The museum hosts events throughout the year, and this year they’re even putting on a drive-through holiday lights show. If you ever find yourself in Oregon, especially near Brooks or Salem, it’s well worth a stop. The history, the atmosphere, and the generosity of the volunteers made it an unforgettable experience. My favorite building was the tractor museum, particularly the old steam tractors. There’s just something about those massive, mechanical machines that captures a time when ingenuity and hard work were built right into the iron itself.

Thank you. They told me make myself at home. The next day before leaving, I walked all over and saw more I didn't the night before. Amazing place.

That sounds like a very enjoyable visit. And a place worth visiting, that’s for sure. I think my dad, especially, would love it.

I definitely will go back. The tractors under the barn in the photo were just a sampling. Not shown but near my truck was a building full of tractors.

I like keeping the membership. It's only $99 a year and the last two years, I got a discount at $89 a year.
