Addressing Gender Based Violence should not take sides.

There is no single village on the globe that has not experienced a case of Gender Based Violence. As usual, the most affected (or thought to be affected) side is the woman. Many organizations have been set up to fight gender based violence. Most of these advocate for women rights and protection of women against men’s violence. In our country Kenya, reliable sources have reported an increase in cases where men have been roughed up and battered by women (especially their spouses). Ego, shame, fear as well as cultural instincts make the male victims of gender based violence continue to suffer in silence. According to those who’ve been bold enough to come out and confess having been assaulted by their spouses, physical as well as mental wellness have been affected. It is my opinion therefore that efforts aimed at curbing gender based violence should not be favouring just one side; rather they should be adjusted to apply to both genders.
