Empowerment should be impartial, for the girl child and the boy child alike

A local source here in Kenya reported of an increase in number of boys dropping out of school. Reasons alleged included substance abuse, child employment, family breakups and lack of school fees. Over the years, the number of girls dropping out was high with reasons being early pregnancies, lack of sanitary pads and early marriages. Many organizations stepped in and ensured the girl child receives support. Currently almost every teenage girl receives free sanitary pads in government schools. Psychosocial support has also reduced rates of teenage pregnancies and early marriages. Currently, the girl child is doing better than the boy child. Inasmuch as I support the intervention on the side of the girl child, I think the boy child also needs empowerment.

Empowerment should be for everyone irrespective of gender. Each one needs equal opportunities.

You're right. There needs to be support for both girls and boys but it all costs money. It seems that little can be done these days without money.
