The coverage today was annoying

I pretty much take every coverage I'm offered at work because, well, money.
Today I was doing an ESL class (English as a Second Language). Our Hispanic population has exploded but the class is not specific to any one group. Most of them speak Spanish but there's also Ukrainian, Tagalog, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, etc.
Anyway the students were supposed to be working on a test that they had been given last week. The teacher's handwritten notes specifically said "no Chromebooks". Most of them were on their Chromebooks and if not then they were on their phones. I understand that they use them as translators but it straight up said none were to be used.
I told them several times. Finally one kid said something disrespectful from across the room. I honestly don't remember what exactly he said but it pissed me off enough that I immediately called the office and told them to send safety to remove him from the room.
After he got to the office the assistant principal called me to find out what had happened. I explained the situation. She said she was just trying to determine if what he was telling her was true. I said "honestly I don't care. I'm not writing him up. I don't even know his name. I truly don't care. He can use the Chromebook as far as I'm concerned."
The rest of the class continued their work. All the while though they were speaking in Spanish. It dawned on me that they could be plotting a riot in the room for all I knew because I don't speak Spanish. It actually made me uncomfortable and feel a little unsafe. Do I really think they were planning my murder? No. But it was the first time I actually felt that way with ESL students.

That can be tough. You have to want to learn to learn, Most don't but at least you have the Christmas break to look forward to don't you?

That's the way I always felt when we would hire Spanish speaking Mexicans to work in the nursery or at my next job, in the basket plant. I always knew that they were talking about me!!! I'm glad you made it through in one piece.
