My Christian friends are waiting me to celebrate the New Year, 2026. Our Hindu New Year begins around March. In 2026 our Hindu New Year will begin on 19 of March, 2026. The day on which Hindu New. Year begins is called "Varsh Pratipada." The Hindu New Year is 57 years ahead of the the New Year in the Gregorian Calender. I celebrated the Hindu New Year, but join my Christian friends also to celebrate January 1. We are going to leave for the hillock 5 kms from here near a jungle I'm leaving, friends. Wish you a very very Happy New Year, 2026 .

Happy New Year 2026! Happy celebrations as well. Don't our new year starts on 14th Jan- Makar Sankranti? Are you talking about Vikram Samvat only?

@Shivram59 And I think as per Vikram Samvat, we are perhaps in 2070s. Lunar calendars are logical and scientific as well.

No, our Hindu New Year starts on Varsh Pratipada. This year it will fall on 19 of March, the first day of Chaitra Navaratri, or the 9 th day of the Month Chaitra. We use Vikram Samvat for our festivals and rituals like marriage etc. Shak Samvat is used by the government only.

@Shivram59 Lunar calendar follows 28 days to 29 days cycle. First day after New Moon to Trayodashi(13th day), then Poornima(14th or 15th day), followed by period when Moon goes from Full stage to New Moon day.

I celebrated the New Year with my Christian friends. They, in turn, join me to celebrate the Hindu New Year. In 2026 our Hindu New Year falls on March 19.
