Mother In Law Just Called Crying and Refusing to Move Into Memory Care

United States
January 17, 2026 5:18pm CST
It took two hours to calm her down, but by the end of the phone call my hubby had "talked her off the ledge" and she has now once again agreed to move into Memory Care. She's scared. She doesn't understand that there's anything wrong with her brain. She thinks the doctors are wrong. She got upset. She cried. She accused. Things got ugly. But in the end we're still moving her in 10 days into Memory Care because it's the best and safest and most loving thing we can do to protect her.

You may have a few of these meltdowns before it's all over...sadly.

I am praying for all of you. She will get settled in in time. She might be thinking that she will be all alone, which is understandable. But I know you will be visiting her and this will help.

That's a hard transition. My Mom had dementia and at times she was clearer. That's when she yelled at me, saying I was making fun of her cause she "had a head issue." I hate that one of my sisters is in lockup but its a comfy place and she is safe.

As hard as it was to keep my mother at home, I’m glad we never had to tell her we were putting her into something like memory care. That’s impossible to hear and impossible to explain in these circumstances.

Omg I said earlier on that I hoped she wouldn't change her mind
