What Makes a Person Watch a Certain Show

I've watched Buffy, the Vampire Slayer lately again. I've probably watched it all the way through all 7 seasons (1997-2003) four or five times. I was watching it last night and wondered why I find it so appealing, coming back to it again and again. I mean it is a young adult series, not one for seniors after all. So I pondered it for a while, and I came to this conclusion: * #1 is that I enjoy a good vamp show, and I also like shows with strong, smart women in the lead. * I so very much enjoy the Buffyverse, Whedonisms, so many terms used for the funny, off the cuff, cute word play and slang that the 144 episodes held true to throughout. More in the first few and less in the last few seasons but still a part that held true and made the dialogue unique and entertaining. Just that aspect of it. Its timelessness is so enjoyed. Willow was so funny in the earlier episodes and Xander was such a buffoon. It was all so realistic in my mind. * I remembered back to when I was in junior high and living in Pocatello. One of my friends and I made up a secret language, and we loved to talk in the halls and send notes using it. The show reminds me of how junior high and high school can be. The cool crowd and the lesser beings. I was extremely shy and so it was doubly hard for me to navigate at times. Depression was looming its ugly head. So my friend Cindy was a great friend to have. * There were moments in the earlier episodes that showed what friendships were like during those formative teen years. I still remember several great friendships I had during that time. Friendship is very important to me and I find that this show emulates that. * Last but not least --Warner Bros. always seem to produce a good movie or tv series. I could name dozens of the best vintage movies and 99.999% would probably be produced by Warners Brothers. (They've been around since 1923 for Pete's sake.) The WB Network is where Buffy originated. So I guess it is enjoyed for me because it takes me back to my school days. As well as the romance, the action, and the supernatural aspects that I always enjoy in a show/series. And the dialogue slays me each time I watch it. Do you have a show/series that you enjoy and have reasons why you enjoy it?

My top 3 are The Office, Friends and Lost. The Office and Friends are funny; and Lost is forever mystical and mysterious.

I'm not into that sort of sit com mentality. But I liked Lost.

I've never watched it. I'm glad you enjoy it. A series I keep watching over and over is Discovery of Witches. I have the book series and was delighted when it was made into a series.

I'd have to say Full house or anything that brings me back to the 90's I grew up with. I'm still a die hard moonie. While I much perfer the Crystal remake of Sailor Moon, Sailor Moon classic holds a special place in my heart.

Never cared for Full House. What's a 'moonie'? I've never heard of Sailor Moon. Was it a tv series, book series?

@celticeagle Sailor Moon is a manga (Japanese comic series) that was adapted into an Anime. It aired in the U.S. in the mid 90's but was later re-dubbed in 2014 along with a remake that followed the manga a bit more closely. "moonie" refers to og fans who grew up with the anime (and or) manga back during itps debut years.

I never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It just depends how the pilot grabs me and I'll know in the first 10 minutes if I will keep watching.

I enjoyed "I Love Lucy" since the stories of Lucy wanting to get into show business but her husband Ricky would tell her no since according to Ricky "She had no talent." Lucy finding ways to ger her way was comical.

I never could wrap my head around sit coms that made women out to be dumb. Her finding ways to out smart Desi always were my favorites.

@celticeagle Good question why women were played as dumb in sitcoms in a previous era.
