I heard before Christmas that a neighbour was ill and an ambulance had been called. She had been taken to hospital. We went away and I wasn’t sure what was happening. I could tell no one was home but just thought she was still in hospital.
Yesturday when we went out there were lights on in two rooms downstairs.
Oh, maybe she is home I thought ….but it seemed a strange time to release someone from hospital.
I thought maybe she had been to her daughters and had now returned home.
However, the lights were still on when we returned home and I knew something was not quite right. Pat was never up that late and never would have both lights on all that time.
I found out today that sadly Pat had died.
She had a stroke and sadly just gave up, refusing food in hospital and wouldn’t do anything ….a very sad end to life.
It is her daughter that is now staying at her house making arrangements.
Goodnight Pat.

That's a shame, but sadly, some people just can't handle the thought they won't be the same. When my husband was in the hospital from his stroke, I almost lost him three times.

@Traceyjayne Some people are like that. Often times we don't know what's going on in their head, but at least it was her choice.

She rarely left the house, her family hardly ever visited….they did live a long way away but in the five years we have lived here they have never visited…..she told me herself she hardly ever saw her family. She was a nice lady ….sad she felt she had to give up.

@Traceyjayne Perhaps she didn't feel like dealing with the inevitable difficulties that recovering from a stroke would entail.

That is so unfortunate. We all live a chancy life indeed.
