Eli's Grade Check #2 - 1/29/26

Hey everyone, how are you all doing? I thought I would share another grade check with you all that want to know how Eli is doing in school. We told him to start bringing home assignments that are not due the same day, and so far it has just been one assignment from English (ELA) class. He is still struggling with other assignments in that class and now it has moved into Home EC. In that class he has not turned in the last 3 assignments. Currently though his grades look like this: ELA - 40% (F) Math - 85% (B) PE - 100% (A+) Science - 74% (C) Home Ec - 57% (F) Social Studies - 94% (A) Advisory - Not sure - this class is pass or fail depending if he turns in all of the weekly grade checks. Now for his missing work - he has 4 assignments missing in ELA, 1 in math, and 3 in home ec (out of 7). The math was the very first assignment and he's turned everything else in so I am not worried. But the home ec class I am concerned because they were easy assignments that he should have done. His grade for ELA has not been updated with this weeks assignment so it may go up a bit, but it won't add a whole lot percentage wise. Not sure what else to do with him. Maybe next week I will tell him to bring home anything that is not due the same day, not just ELA work. What do you all think? Photo is mine; most recent photo of Eli with my mom's dog.

If you can get him to bring homework home, then you can make sure he gets it done. That's the only way you can keep a better eye on him.

@MommyOfEli2013 He's trying to be a typical kid skating through school. He's giving every classic excuse. He knows, but he thinks you'll take him at his word.

The trouble is he says for some of the assignments he doesn't know when they are due and then he forgets. Some of the ones he doesn't turn in, also may be assignments that are due that same day.

I think he has to bring home his assignments every single day or deal with the consequences. Most of his subjects look great, except for the obvious.

@MommyOfEli2013 You should be on top of his daily assignments, too, and know everything that he has to have done. Just my opinion which is what you asked for.

Well what is not due in the same day he should, definitely. Only the two classes that he hasn't been turning things in consistently. Science he struggles with the lab assignments, but those they do in groups.

@DianneN Well he is old enough now it should be his responsibility, he'll never learn if we are always doing everything for him.

I think asking him to bring all his assignments home will help.

That's a cute pic. He needs to bring you everything not due the same day. You need to keep a close eye on him.

Yes, he does have good grades too...but there is no reason he should have Fs.

@Ineeddentures Well last semester he only brought his F up to a D by the end. At least it still passed...but he won't be in honors english next year if he doesn't get above a C. And the other F is an explore class which will end halfway through the semester, not sure what happens if he fails that

I guess parenting has changed. If I hadn’t done my work I would be punished. I know you’re trying.

Oh he is being punished, but maybe we need to take it up another level? And we're trying everything we know to help him to get things done.

He hates PE, they just get a good grade for showing up and joining in whatever they are told to do.

It’s great to see how well he’s doing in math, PE, and social studies. Hopefully with some support he can get caught up in ELA and Home Ec — sounds like you’re on top of it.
