Today is one of those days that feels a little heavier than usual. We lost Catherine O’Hara, and it’s hard to put into words just how much joy she brought into the world.
Catherine had that rare kind of talent that felt effortless. She could make you laugh without trying too hard, and just as easily make you feel something real. Whether she was playing a stressed-out mom, an over-the-top socialite, or someone wonderfully odd, she always felt familiar. Like someone you’d known forever.
So many of us grew up watching her. She was there during the holidays, on lazy afternoons, and during moments when we just needed something comforting and funny to escape into. Her work became part of our routines, part of our memories, part of home.
What made Catherine special wasn’t just that she was funny. It was that she was human. Her characters had heart, flaws, and warmth. She reminded us that it’s okay to be dramatic, awkward, loud, loving, or a little bit ridiculous.
Today, a lot of people are sharing clips, quotes, and memories. That says everything. She didn’t just entertain us. She stayed with us.
Rest peacefully, Catherine O’Hara. Thank you for the laughter, the comfort, and the countless moments of joy. You will be deeply missed, and always remembered.

She was in the second beetlejuice movie not that long ago. That was only a year or two ago.

I mean I guess not, but 71 is still a good long life.

She really was! And she could play such different rolls.

I’ll always remember her as the mom from Home Alone. She left such a lasting impression in that role. Macaulay’s tribute to his on-screen mother was incredibly touching and full of love—it really showed how much she meant to him beyond the movie. A brilliant actress and she seemed like a genuinely wonderful person. May she rest in peace. 71 is a well lived life but still young.
