Orange California Police officer Corporal Greggory Cates was on patrol on Monday January 19 when he answered a 911 call from a mother who reported that her seven month old girl was choking on a hair clip. Officer Cates when he arrived at the home of the choking victim grabbed the little girl from the arms of the mom as he used the Heimlich maneuver to remove the hair clip from her throat so she could breathe again. The good news is that the girl was taken by an ambulance to a local hospital with the family as a precaution along with Officer Cates. Officials with the City Of Orange awarded Officer Cates with the Life Saving Medal this week for saving the life of the girl. The family of the girl and her parents reunited with Officer Cates at the city council meeting to thank him for saving the life of the girl. Nice to see a police officer receive an award for saving a life. Link is msn.com/en-us/lifestyl,,,

Thank goodness! Kids seem to put everything in their mouths. Her mother must have been worried sick.

The mom was scared that her daughter stopped breathing.

That was wonderful to receive the reward for saving the child's life. I don't need to wonder how the hair clip got into her throat as infants put everything in their mouth. You need to watch them like a hawk. One look away can be disastrous. I'm glad it wasn't in this case.

That is true that young children have to be watched like a hawk by adults.

Little kids will just find anything to stick in their mouths, won’t they. I wish everyone knew the Heimlich maneuver.

I am in agreement with you that we all should learn the Heimlich maneuver.

Choking seems to happen quite often with young children.

That is true since eating a meal in a hurry leads to choking these days.
