What's for din? Feb 4, 2026

We hit the road at 6:50 this morning and didn’t walk back through our front door until about thirty minutes ago, so cooking was absolutely not happening tonight. On our way back from the dealership, Chris and I swung by our friend’s diner for a late lunch — fully aware it would double as dinner leftovers. Chris stayed loyal to his favorite: a smoked pulled pork sandwich with homemade sauce on homemade bread, plus homemade smoked mac and cheese and a sweet tea. I shook things up and ordered shaved steak with provolone and homemade garlic aioli on Cuban bread, served with their homemade Greek pasta salad and — you guessed it — sweet tea. She child has been dreaming about their smoked brownies since the last time we brought one home, so of course we grabbed one for her. I also brought the owners some magnets I made for their menu board, and they were genuinely thrilled to get them, which made my day. Then, just as we were finally headed home, my mother-in-law texted asking for orange chicken for dinner. Normally I’d make it from scratch, but after six hours at the Dodge dealership and a parade of errands afterward, my homemade enthusiasm had officially clocked out. So we stopped by our local Chinese place and picked up orange chicken and fried rice for her and she child. They’ve already eaten; Chris and I will dig in a little later. He child is off at a friend’s house, living his best life. So that’s dinner in our corner of the world tonight. What’s on your plate?

I had some Campbell’s home style chicken soup, different from lunch’s Progresso chicken soup. Pasta salad sounds so good right now.

@thislittlepennyearns I usually opt for the cheap chicken soup, but I needed real sustenance.

I'll be having curried chicken and peach casserole with rice. I made it for a sick friend but it wouldn't all fit in the container I had. There is just enough left over for my dinner.
