Eli's Grade Check # 3 - 2/5/26

Hello everyone, how are you all doing? I thought I would share another grade check to see how Eli has been doing in his classes. Some of you shared interest in seeing that and I want to keep up on his grades. The grades are looking better this week, except for ELA (though it is improving). He starts off the day with ELA (English Language Arts) - Grade: 53% (F) He brought it up from 40% or so last week. He turned in the last 2 assignments with 100% on both. He brought them up and I made sure they were complete. Then he goes to Math - Grade: 88% (B+) He only has 1 missing assignment from the first week of class. The rest he has been turning in. Next is P.E.(Gym) - Grade: 100% (A+) No assignments here, just participation daily Science is after P.E. - there his grade is 77% (C) He may have one assignment missing, but they do a lot of work in this class. There have been 27 assignments, with at least 14 of them being labs. One of the latest he either didn't turn in, or got a zero on it. Next up he goes to Home Ec - Grade: 91% (A-) He brought this grade up from an F last week. There were a couple assignments that were late that the teacher let him turn in and she only took 1 point off of each for being late. He's still missing one assignment though. Then he has Social Studies - Grade: 91% (A-) No missing assignments so far here, and mostly A's on his assignments. Finally, he ends the day with advisory hour (well more like 45 minutes) - Grade: 67% - Passing They are just graded here on whether or not they turn in the grade checks - and apparently Eli missed turning in one week; and this week is still in question. Not sure what happens if he fails this one. His grades are a whole lot better this week. He still needs to bring up English, and continue turning things in in his other classes. This is an older school photo of Eli - might have been 5th grade.

I hope he continues doing better. Writing is a method that he will need to master. It’s difficult for many children. Perhaps his teacher could offer you both suggestions. I could, but I charge a lot of money

@MommyOfEli2013 In the beginning I used to give my students a few topics from which to choose. Then I let them write about something that they did or wanted to do or something in the classroom, friends, family members, games, etc., and later on write about anything that they chose. It’s even difficult to think of something to write about on here! He will mature and eventually come up with something that he’s passionate about and write about it. I need to replace that $200 I wasted on those theater tickets.

@DianneN That's kind of what he needs, choices of things to write on and such. Sometimes his teachers have told him "write about anything you want" and that's too broad for him. So just a few specific topics would be better I think. But that sounds like a good way to go about things. Yes, sometimes it is difficult to think about what to write here...very true! Well wish I could help there, but I don't remember the last time I saw $200 lol.

I know that English/writing is only going to get more tough as he goes through all the grades. He knows how to write, the issue is always that he "doesn't know" what to write. I think it is really that he would rather be doing other things and doesn't want to have to think. So far the teacher suggested him bringing home work that is not due that same day. That's too bad, especially since we don't have any money lol

If Eli could get over his resistance to writing creatively and get his assignments in, he could be an outstanding student. As it is, he is doing well.

@MommyOfEli2013 That's a pity. I hope he gets over that as he progresses through the grades.

Right, that is all that is really holding him back. I think his shyness kind of holds him back in science - may not help him get better grades on the lab work because he doesn't participate well with others.

Clearly he has no interest or aptitude for English. His other classes seem to be fine. Maybe the teacher can recommend something.

I wonder if this helping keep you both accountable. He seems to be doing pretty good, or somewhat better.

He's doing better in the one class because I make sure he does his work. I am glad I made him finish one assignment in home ec, even though it was late...he turned it in and still got an A. On his own, he never would have done it

@MommyOfEli2013 That does sound like a typical kid. At least he's getting things done.

I just hope he gets to where he knows when things are due, and can manage his time better... I am glad science for him is where things are due that same day so they get them done in that class time. When they are due on a different day he struggles more
